Irish Wolfhound dog breed is a war dog breed. They were initially bred to assist soldiers during times of war, with their primary responsibility being dragging men off horses and chariots. They were also used for hunting wolves, deer, and boars. And while this might worry some, the Irish Wolfhound dog breed has quickly adapted to become more of a family dog over the years. The dogs from this breed also take part in tracking and lure coursing tournaments.
